Practice Your Storytelling Skills
For the last three years I have thoroughly enjoyed the privilege
of having a dozen young students to whom I like to teach my
own personal brand of storytelling -
- Writing to involve your readers' emotions,
- Persuading them to believe in, and enter, the universe
you have created, and
- Exciting their hearts and senses.
I do this because I love it.
I don't charge, and I'm picky about whom I choose. My students
may live overseas, or their first language may not be English
- indeed, some of last year's students lived in mainland China
and afterwards I was invited to speak to University groups
in Xiamin and Beijing. I don't try to teach my students English,
that's not my job - but I will try to teach them how to tell
exciting and involving stories.
I teach online, mainly via one-to-one tutorials, critiquing
and short exercises - and we're very informal. Sessions are
short but often intense. Please note that I can't dedicate
much time to teaching, since I have my own writing career
to develop, so this is a part-time activity done for love,
and nobody will be overworked.
If you would like to talk about this, please email
me and tell me about yourself.
